Modern Wedding Rockstar Photography Pt. II | Long Beach | Wafarer’s Chapel | Skye Room
November 18, 2009I’m often times referring to a Bride and Groom as ROCKSTARS. When I say that, I’m usually referring to the size and awesomeness of the party they planned….the amount of style they displayed while under the pressure of such a big day….or just a general observation of their overall personality at any given moment since I’ve known them. For most Bride/Groom couples, their wedding is the one day that they get to be Rockstars. It’s the day they take center-stage, all eyes are on them in their fancy outfits and their giant entourage.
But when I refer to Avery and Robert as Rockstars…it’s like a double-entendre. Because not only are they Rockstars in the perverbial sense…but they can actually write “Rockstar” in the occupation field. Yup, the kind that strut around on stage in tight pants with electric guitars n stuff. If you don’t believe me, you can read about Robert here.
Avery and Robert were married at the Wafarer’s Chapel, which is an all glass church designed by Frank Lloyd Wright’s son. Guess what his name is? Lloyd Wright (drop the Frank). Anyway, if you ask me – that’s not the only thing that makes this church so cool….it was also where Julie Cooper married Caleb Nichol. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about – you can read about it here.
The party continued at the Skye Room which is a swanky little joint with an art deco feel. Guests enjoyed Martini’s and an elegant dinner while taking in the incredible view over Long Beach! Congratulations to Avery and Robert, the bride and groom with true Rockstar Style! ~J
Modern Wedding (Rockstar) Photography | Long Beach
November 16, 2009I never know what to expect when I knock on the grooms hotel room door on the day of his wedding. Sometimes I enter to photograph a story of a Groom and his mom rehearsing an important speach. Sometimes it’s an anxious gentleman trying to get the length of his tie just right. More often than not it’s just a bunch of guys watching football. But when I knocked on the door to Robert’s suite, I entered to find him having his make-up done! Oh, I was floored with excitement at this opportunity. The first question he asked me was if I thought he should have his eyes lined on the outside or the inside edge. How many guys even know that there are two separate edges under the eye to line? How do I even answer that question? If you want to know how it played out…I told him to outline the outside edge – well, becauase that’s how I do it. But I was quickly veto’d by his daughter-in-law who insisted that was far too bold! Gosh, what does the photographer know about these things? Robert also asked me if he should do a long fake eyelash just on one side. My answer: Why Not! Let’s go all out! Verdict: Veto’d again. ha! Women, do NOT hire me to consult for your husband’s wedding make-up (:
Now in my mind, there are only two breeds of Groom that arrive to the alter in a full face of make-up. The Gay Groom ….. and The Rockstar Groom. And while I think they are both equally as awesome, residing in two priveledged classes all of their own, I should clarify that Robert most definitely falls within the latter of categories….this guy is a ROCKSTAR in every sense of the word – right down to the spiked out hair and black eyeliner! He wears it all with a great deal of style and class. I wish I got to photograph more grooms like Robert….a sparkle in his eye and a giant heart of gold!
More on Robert’s Awesome Wafarer’s Chapel Wedding and Reception tomorrow, but until then – check out his Wedding Day Story….. Cheers Robert – You really know how to rock a groom sesh (: ~J
